Material Handling Solutions for Food & Beverage
Cost-Saving Climate Control using insulated high speed doors
This major food distribution center needed to balance accessibility with climate and cost control for its highly perishable inventory of frozen foods.
While a run-of-the-mill, scored fabric or plastic curtain would provide ease of movement for forklifts traveling in and out of cold storage, they did not provide the protection necessary for the delicate inventory, nor did they contribute much to keeping energy costs down.
A high speed, solid fabric door operation activated by photocells provided maximum protection against energy loss and temperature fluctuations while allowing quick access for the forklifts. The addition of a heated air curtain prevented frost build up on the door, allowing it to operate freely without malfunction.
Use of Vertical Space for Storage and Assembly
When a major beverage distributor decided to consolidate its operations into a single location, they called Bode for assistance. The customer had made the decision to close one location and move all operations to another existing facility. Efficient use of space was key to a successful consolidation and efficient operations going forward. The existing facility had plenty of vertical space that was not being utilized and Bode Equipment was called in to make an assessment and recommendations on how to make the best use of it.
Upon assessing the facility, the Bode design team noted that there was an abundance of vertical space that was not currently being used and suggested the installation of a mezzanine storage system to make the most of it. Quicker, more cost effective and less disruptive to ongoing operations than constructing an addition to the facility, the mezzanine easily accommodate the additional staff and product volume of the consolidation of operations.
Bode provided all design and installation, including the addition of a modular office system which provided plant supervisors with a quiet and somewhat private space for meetings and calls while still providing visibility of the facility's operations.
