Dock, Door & Material Handling Solutions for Warehouse & Shipping
A High-Volume Industrial Warehouse
This large scale, industrial warehouse client needed reliable and durable loading dock equipment, and lots of them, to keep up with the multitude of deliveries coming into and out of its facility on a daily basis.
Bode quickly installed and customized over a 40 overhead dock doors, levelers and seals to meet the needs of this high volume facility. The heavy duty doors and levelers were made to withstand the high frequency demands
of this operation while the high performance dock seals helped save on energy costs and provided a comfortable working environment in the highly variable New England climate. During the dock installation, Bode also installed (2) VRC pallet lifts to quickly and securely move loads to and from the second level mezzanine, making the most efficient use of their warehouse's space.
A Challenging Loading Dock Dilemma
Erected in 1934, the Christian Science Publishing Building is part of the historic 14+ First Church of Christ, Scientist complex located in downtown Boston.
Application:
Central to the operations of the building are 2 large loading docks, the largest of which measures 47 feet wide. Capped by large bronze-panel doors, that were heavy, slow to move and becoming increasingly difficult to maintain, First Church wanted to replace the doors with something equally durable, but lighter, faster and easier to maintain while maintaining as much of the historical integrity of the building as possible.
Solution:
- Bode delivered a total solution, bringing together design and structural engineering, drawings, product, installation, and electrical work to complete the project quickly and with minimal disruption to operations
- 2 Albany UltraTough Rubber Doors and 2 Albany UltraBig Rubber Doors were selected for their size and durability as well as ease of movement and storage
- Customer header assemblies were designed, built and installed to house the doors in a mere 30 inch overhead space
- The entire installation was done to avoid any metal-on-metal contact so as to preserve the historic bronze panels that framed the loading dock
The new doors weighed in at only 10,000 pounds each which operated on a single motor at a rate of two feet per minute, considerably lighter and faster than the original doors. Bode was able to provide a complete solution from the initial design, custom engineering, sales, warehousing and finally the installation. All work was completed on time without interfering with the structural repairs that were being done concurrent to the installation. First Church was so pleased with end results that they hired Bode to provide ongoing maintenance for the doors as well as other equipment not installed by Bode.
This elevating, ground-level dock lift provided the flexibility to accommodate loading and unloading of heavy and awkward items from or to virtually any vehicle height. The rugged security gate at the end of the lift is an important safety feature to prevent wheeled items from rolling off the end and the custom cement pad provided the perfect elevation to put this standard height lift level with the building's existing dock without expensive customization. That's correct, Bode performed the saw cutting, concrete forming, bollards and complete supply/installation of the scissor dock - turnkey solution.
